Brian
T. Corrigan has 15 years' experience in a wide variety of business
litigation, reorganization and transactional matters.
Mr.
Corrigan's litigation experience includes cases litigated in the
federal district court and bankruptcy court in all districts in
California and in the district court for the Southern District of
New York, and many of California's trial courts and in the California
Court of Appeals. Mr. Corrigan has also arbitrated matters before
JAMS and the American Arbitration Association. In such tribunals,
Mr. Corrigan has litigated a wide array of tort and contract matters,
including business fraud, software development disputes, securities
fraud, employee/employer claims and copyright infringement disputes.
Mr.
Corrigan's reorganization work includes the representation of debtors,
creditors' committees, creditors, trustees and purchasers of assets
in Chapter 11, 13 and 7 cases. Mr. Corrigan's bankruptcy experience
includes extensive involvement in "mega-cases" in which
the Debtor's assets exceed $100 million. Mr. Corrigan has been extensively
involved in representing debtors in the following successful reorganizations:
Fontana Union Water Company ($50 million water company); Golden
West Refining Company (complex environmental issues arising out
of refinery resolved through reorganization); and Koar-Tahoe Partners,
LLP ($50 million Hotel located in South Lake Tahoe). Mr. Corrigan
authored "Corporate Governance Under Chapter 11: Should Directors
Serve Shareholders, Creditors, and/or the Corporation?" Practicing
Law Institute, Volume II (Spring 1994).
Mr.
Corrigan's practice has also included negotiating and drafting various
commercial transactions, including secured lending documents, buy-sell
agreements and real estate contracts.
Mr.
Corrigan graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 1983 with
a BS in Accounting. At LMU Mr. Corrigan was captain of his Water
Polo team, and was a Los Angeles County Beach Lifeguard. After graduating
from LMU, Mr. Corrigan joined Price Waterhouse (now PWCoopers),
where he spent 3 years in the audit and tax practices, and earned
his CPA in 1985.
In
1989, Mr. Corrigan graduated Magna Cum Laude (2nd in his law school
class) from Southwestern University School of Law in 1989. At Southwestern,
Mr. Corrigan earned top honors in many subjects, including American
Jurisprudence Awards in Bankruptcy, Remedies and Introduction to
Income Taxation, and Exceptional Achievement Awards in Sales and
Estate Planning and Drafting.
After
graduating from law school, Mr. Corrigan began his legal career
with Gendel, Raskoff, Shapiro & Quittner, a nationally renowned
bankruptcy boutique. In 1991, Mr. Corrigan joined the national bankruptcy
practice group of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. In 1993, Mr.
Corrigan joined the national bankruptcy practice group of Kaye,
Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler. In 1999, Mr. Corrigan founded
Corrigan & Morris with Stanley C. Morris.
Mr.
Corrigan is the proud father of four children. He and his family
have been active members of their community in Santa Monica for
the past 35 years. For the past 15 years, Mr. Corrigan has been
a member in good standing of the State Bar of California and is
admitted to practice before all of the courts of California, as
well as the United States District Courts and Bankruptcy Courts
for the Southern, Central, Eastern and Northern Districts of California.
